«Potap and Nastya» — is a Ukrainian pop duo formed in Kyiv in 2006 by rapper, composer and producer Potap (Oleksii Potapenko) and singer Nastya Kamenskykh (Anastasiia Kamenskykh). It became one of the most successful Ukrainian music projects of the late 2000s and first half of the 2010s. The duo's music combined pop, R&B, hip-hop, electronic dance music, reggaeton and elements of traditional pop entertainment.
During their main period of activity, «Potap and Nastya» released four studio albums: «Не пара», «Не люби мне мозги», «Всё пучком» and «Щит и Мяч». Their best-known songs include «Без любви», «Не пара», «Крепкие орешки», «На раЁне», «Почему», «Не люби мне мозги», «Чумачечая весна», «Если вдруг», «Вместе», «Всё пучком», «Уди Уди», «Бумдиггибай», «Стиль собачки», «Умамы» and «Я……Я».
Potap created most of the duo's songs, the musical concept and a significant share of their music videos. Nastya Kamenskykh was responsible for the main melodic vocal line. The contrast between Potap's recitative and Kamenskykh's powerful female vocals became the duo's defining musical device.
Potap Before the Duo
Oleksii Andriiovych Potapenko was born on May 8, 1981, in Kyiv. Before beginning a professional music career, he trained seriously in swimming and water polo, received extensive sports training and graduated from the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine. He later earned a second degree from Kyiv National Economic University.
In the early 2000s, Potap was active in the Ukrainian hip-hop scene. He performed with the group «Вхід у Змінному Взутті», released his own rap material and collaborated with New'Z'Cool, XS and other artists.
Gradually, Potap began devoting more attention to songwriting and music production. He worked on lyrics and music, arrangements, music videos and the overall concepts of artist projects.
Nastya Kamenskykh Before «Potap and Nastya»
Anastasiia Oleksiivna Kamenskykh was born on May 4, 1987, in Kyiv. As a child, she studied piano, vocals and dance. She spent part of her childhood abroad through a family exchange program and began learning foreign languages at an early age.
In 2004, Nastya Kamenskykh won the Grand Prix at the «Black Sea Games» festival. A year later, she was recognized at the UBN Awards in London in the Discovery of the Year category.
The singer made her first solo recordings in cooperation with the Music-Motors production center. In 2005, the music video for «Какая разница» was released. At the time, Nastya Kamenskykh was considering a solo career, but meeting Potap led to the creation of a new joint project.
The Creation of «Potap and Nastya»
Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh began working together in 2006. Potap was looking for a female vocalist for new material, and Kamenskykh was suggested as a performer. The collaboration quickly grew beyond a single studio recording and developed into a permanent duo.
Their first song together was «Без любви». It already contained the main elements of the duo's future sound: male recitative, a large female chorus, electronic rhythms and a dialogue between two stage characters.
The name «Potap and Nastya» emphasized the personal nature of the project. Potap played an ironic, self-confident character, while Nastya Kamenskykh portrayed an emotional and strong heroine who could argue with him while also taking part in the musical flirtation.
Potap simultaneously performed several roles: artist, lyricist, composer and producer, while also participating in directing and developing scripts for music videos.
«Не пара» and the First Successes
One of the duo's first major songs was «Не пара». Its title perfectly matched the project's stage concept: the characters constantly argue, challenge one another and emphasize their differences while remaining part of the same musical dialogue.
In 2007, «Potap and Nastya» took part in the televised «Five Stars» competition in Sochi and won.
During the same period, «Крепкие орешки», «В натуре», «Почему» and other early songs appeared. Their music videos made extensive use of parody, grotesque imagery, costumed characters, everyday humor and references to popular culture.
Debut Album «Не пара»
In March 2008, the duo released their first studio album, «Не пара».
The record brought together the duo's early material, including «Не пара», «В натуре», «Почему», «Крепкие орешки», «Разгуляй» and other tracks.
The music was not limited to R&B: Potap combined hip-hop rhythms, pop choruses, club-oriented electronic music, reggaeton and occasional elements of traditional pop and chanson.
In 2008, «Potap and Nastya» received the MUZ-TV Award for Breakthrough of the Year, while «Почему» earned the duo a Golden Gramophone.
«На раЁне» and «Не люби мне мозги»
The next period made the duo's lyrics even more conversational. In «На раЁне», pop music was combined with deliberately everyday urban language, slang and phonetic jokes.
In December 2009, the second studio album, «Не люби мне мозги», was released. It included «Не люби мне мозги», «На раЁне», «Качаем» and other songs.
By this point, one of Potap's key songwriting techniques had fully emerged: an ordinary conversational phrase would be turned into both the chorus and the title of a song. This language clearly distinguished the duo from more traditional mainstream pop of the period.
Television
The popularity of «Potap and Nastya» quickly expanded beyond music television and concerts.
In 2009, Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh hosted the morning program Guten Morgen on M1, and in 2010 they appeared in the show «Я люблю Украину».
In 2012, M1 aired the reality project «USA — не попса» about the artists' trip across the United States. The format combined music, humor and reality television and continued the on-screen dynamic already familiar from the duo's music videos.
«Чумачечая весна» and the Duo's Lyrical Side
In 2011, «Чумачечая весна» was released — one of the best-known songs by «Potap and Nastya».
The chorus was built around the deliberately incorrect word «чумачечая». Potap repeatedly used this kind of technique: a phonetically striking construction designed to be easy to remember and function as a musical hook.
«Чумачечая весна» earned the duo another Golden Gramophone.
The same year, «Potap and Nastya» recorded «Выкрутасы», the official soundtrack to the film of the same name, and also released «Мы отменяем К.С.» and «Если вдруг».
The latter represented the more lyrical side of the duo. In songs like this, recitative and humor moved into the background, while Nastya Kamenskykh's vocals became the central element. «Если вдруг» received a Golden Gramophone in 2012.
«Прилелето» and the Album «Всё пучком»
In 2012, «Прилелето» and «Улелето» were released. Potap continued to work with invented and phonetically expressive words while strengthening the electronic component of the arrangements.
On October 2, 2013, the duo released their third studio album, «Всё пучком».
The album included «Всё пучком», «РуРуРу», «Вместе», «Любовь со скидкой», «Прилелето», «Если вдруг», «Не хватило воздуха», «Чумачечая весна» and other songs.
The title track «Всё пучком» continued Potap's characteristic use of colloquial expressions. The song received a Golden Gramophone in 2014.
«Уди Уди», «Бумдиггибай» and a New Electronic Sound
After the album «Всё пучком», the duo continued releasing standalone singles.
In 2014, «Уди Уди» appeared. The song was more concise than many of the duo's earlier works and was noticeably more oriented toward contemporary electronic dance music.
In 2015, «Бумдиггибай» was released, with its title once again built around phonetic wordplay. By this point, the duo's sound had become denser and closer to the electronic pop of the mid-2010s.
«Стиль собачки» and «Щит и Мяч»
One of the most notable collaborations of the duo's later period was «Стиль собачки», recorded with singer Bianca.
The track used R&B aesthetics and a provocative presentation, while the familiar dialogue between two performers was transformed into a number featuring three distinct vocal characters.
On October 26, 2015, the duo released their fourth studio album, «Щит и Мяч». It included «Бумдиггибай», «Стиль собачки», «Папа вам не мама», «Карусели», «Ветра / Холода» and other songs.
On this album, the electronic production already matched the sound of contemporary mid-2010s pop, while humor, stylistic eclecticism and short interludes remained part of the project.
«Умамы» and the Duo's Tenth Anniversary
In 2016, «Умамы» was released — one of the most notable songs from the closing stage of the duo's first chapter.
The track was calmer than many of their earlier hits and placed greater emphasis on melody and Nastya Kamenskykh's vocals. «Умамы» topped Ukraine's TopHit radio chart and received the Hit of the Year award at the 2016 M1 Music Awards.
The same year, «Potap and Nastya» celebrated their tenth anniversary with the large concert program «Золотые киты».
They also released the compilation «Золотые киты. The Best Of» and the live album «Золотые киты — 10 лет (Live in Kiev)».
The anniversary program brought together songs from different periods, including «Не пара», «Крепкие орешки», «Не люби мне мозги», «Чумачечая весна», «РуРуРу», «Всё пучком», «Если вдруг», «Стиль собачки», «Прилелето», «Умамы», «Уди Уди» and others.
«Я……Я» and the Hiatus
In 2017, the duo released «Я……Я», also known as «Ядовитая». It became the last major new single before the project stopped operating on a regular basis.
On October 24, 2017, Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh published a joint statement announcing a hiatus.
This meant a suspension of regular recordings and touring rather than an official permanent breakup of the duo.
Nastya Kamenskykh launched her solo career under the name NK. The first single of the new period was «#ЭтоМояНочь». She later worked with Ukrainian-, Russian-, English- and Spanish-language material and released the albums No Komments and Красное вино.
Potap returned to rap with the PTP project, continued working with MOZGI and remained involved with artists at MOZGI Entertainment.
In December 2017, while already on hiatus, the duo received a special M1 Music Awards honor for their contribution to the development of Ukrainian show business.
Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh Offstage
For most of the duo's history, its public image was built around the idea of being a «mismatched couple». Flirting, arguments and romantic tension were part of the songs, music videos and live performances.
On May 23, 2019, Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh married. The same day, Potap released the song «Константа», dedicated to their relationship.
After the wedding, the duo's earlier stage dynamic gained additional context, even though their early songs had been created long before the relationship was publicly confirmed.
Rare Joint Performances After 2017
After beginning their solo careers, Potap and Nastya Kamenskykh continued to cross paths professionally. Potap participated in work on some of NK's material, while the artists also appeared together at public events.
On January 19, 2020, they performed together on the Ukrainian show «The Voice of the Country», although the appearance did not signal a full return of the duo.
In the following years, «Potap and Nastya» existed primarily as a large catalog of songs, while new material was released under the artists' solo names.
The Return of «Potap and Nastya»
In 2026, «Potap and Nastya» returned to joint concert activity after a long hiatus.
On July 26, Potap & Nastya performed at the Laima Rendezvous Jūrmala festival at the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jūrmala. It was the project's first major joint performance in roughly nine years.
The set included «Чумачечая весна», «Всё пучком», «На раЁне», «Умамы», «Не пара» and other songs.
The return was built primarily around the existing catalog. As of September 2026, the reunited duo had not released a new studio album.
Musical Style
The sound of «Potap and Nastya» was based on the contrast between the two performers. Potap was primarily responsible for recitative, rhythm, humor and the narrative element, while Nastya Kamenskykh provided the main melodic line and large vocal choruses.
This allowed a comedic verse and a serious chorus, rap and pop balladry, club electronics and elements of R&B, reggaeton or traditional pop to coexist within a single song.
The project's music was never tied to a single genre. At different stages, hip-hop, R&B, pop, dance, reggaeton and electronic club music took the lead.
Language of the Songs
Another distinctive feature of the catalog was Potap's songwriting language.
The lyrics actively used conversational expressions, slang, deliberately incorrect words and phonetic constructions such as «чумачечая», «прилелето», «улелето» and «бумдиггибай».
These words functioned primarily as part of the rhythm and chorus. They were easy to remember and helped the songs stand out from other pop releases.
At the same time, the catalog was not limited to comedic material. «Если вдруг», «Не хватило воздуха», «Вместе» and «Умамы» represented the duo's more direct lyrical side.
Music Videos
Music videos were an important part of the project almost from the very beginning.
Potap directed or participated in the development of a significant share of the videos. They used film parodies, caricatured characters, exaggerated fashion, everyday humor and visual references to popular culture.
Other directors later worked with the duo as well. Leonid Kolosovskyi directed the videos for «Всё пучком», «Бумдиггибай», «Стиль собачки» and «Умамы».
The Place of «Potap and Nastya» in Ukrainian Pop Music
«Potap and Nastya» emerged during a period when the Ukrainian and Russian mass-pop markets were closely connected. The project was created in Kyiv by Ukrainian artists, but a significant part of the repertoire was in Russian and was distributed simultaneously across several countries.
The duo's commercial success also played an important role in Potap's subsequent production career. The experience and infrastructure built around the project later became the foundation for the development of «Vremya i Steklo», MOZGI and other artists.
For this reason, the significance of «Potap and Nastya» extends beyond their own hits. The duo became one of the projects around which a significant part of Ukraine's commercial pop industry of the 2010s developed.
